School Readiness Assessments
School readiness assessments are designed to offer insight into a child's readiness to progress from Grade R to Grade 1. These assessments evaluate a child's cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and motor-perceptual domains, providing information on their strengths and weaknesses. This information helps parents and schools to make appropriate recommendations for interventions that can support the child's academic journey.
School readiness assessment process consists of the following:
- Parent intake interview (1 hour)
- Comprehensive background questionnaire (completed by parents)
- Psycho-educational assessment (this is sometimes done over two days)
- Classroom observation and teacher interview/questionnaire (as per need) (20-30 minutes)
- Feedback session to parents
- School readiness report (compiled within 2-3 weeks of the assessment)
