Psycho-Educational Assessment

Psycho-educational assessments aim to evaluate a child's cognitive, emotional, scholastic, behavioural, and motor-perceptual functioning. Through the assessment of these domains and the integration of assessment results, suitable recommendations are made based on the findings. The assessment outcomes guide the development of interventions and the type of support that will be necessary at home and school. These assessments can be beneficial in identifying neurodevelopmental disorders, such as Specific Learning Disorder (SLD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), as well as other internal and external factors that can impede learning.

Psycho-educational assessment process consist of the following:

  • Parent intake interview (1 hour)
  • Comprehensive background questionnaire (completed by parents)
  • Psycho-educational assessment (this is sometimes done over two days)
  • Classroom observation and teacher interview/questionnaire (as per need) (20-30 minutes)
  • Feedback session to parents
  • Psycho-educational report (compiled within 2-3 weeks of the assessment)
  • Talking Minds - Psychotherapist Site Template
